We are Begin, The House of Refuge, a dedicated non-profit organization committed to serving the widows and orphans in Begin, a small locality in Bainet, located in the Sud-Est department of Haiti. Our mission is to provide comprehensive support to the most vulnerable members of our community, offering assistance with living expenses, education, housing, and more.
We provide financial assistance to help cover the living expenses of approximately 300 individuals, including elders, mothers, and young children. This support ensures that they have access to basic necessities and a better quality of life
We help repair and rebuild broken homes, providing a safe and secure environment for families to live in. Our goal is to ensure that every widow and orphan has a roof over their heads and a place they can call home.
We pay school tuitions to ensure that children have access to education. By investing in their education, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and give them a brighter future.
To address social issues such as fornication, we host marriage ceremonies for adults. We provide simple wedding gowns and rings, and in return, the couples help with cleaning the church building. This initiative promotes family stability and community involvement
To combat severe drought and the lack of water, we are able to capture rain water in a big underground citerne, and give access to the whole community to get water for their use. But clean water is needed for that community, we aim to take actions when funds are received.
We purchase land and turn it over to the community for agricultural use. By growing crops such as beans, maize, sweet potatoes, and bananas, we promote food security and economic independence. The workers sell their produce at local flea markets, earning money to support themselves and their families
We need to build a Sanctuary on top of the missionary house to worship God. But in order to do that, we need help replacing the roof. And the replacement of the roof becoming our biggest challenge, because every time it rains we have a severe flooding that occurs. The roof was made of corroded metal with many holes, leading to water damage and unsafe
conditions for missionaries.
Our goal is to place a durable concrete roof to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who
uses the place.
We have already built an addition to our place of worship, which we currently use to care for mothers. However, our biggest challenge is the severe flooding that occurs when it rains. The roof is made of corroded metal with many holes, leading to water damage and unsafe conditions. Our goal is to replace the current defective roof with a durable concrete one to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone who uses the space.
There is a severe lack of drinking water in our community. Although there is a river nearby, we need a special water pump to make the water accessible and safe for use. Access to clean water is essential for health, hygiene, and daily living.
There is a significant lack of basic education in our community. We aim to build a school that serves children from kindergarten through 12th grade. Education is a cornerstone for breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering the next generation.
At Begin, The House of Refuge, we believe in fostering a vibrant and supportive community through various activities and events. These initiatives not only provide joy and stress relief but also strengthen the bonds within our community
We organize numerous activities for children throughout the year to promote their well-being and development.
In 2001, we initiated an annual nine-day convention that brings together various local churches and denominations. This event aims to promote unity, shared learning, and spiritual growth.
